MEET THE TEAM

Charlie Cunningham

PODIATRIST

BSc (Hons) MRCPOD

After several careers in the diverse fields of acting, teaching and, most recently, higher education career advice, Charlie revisited an early interest in medicine and, in 2021, went back to university to become a Podiatrist. While at the University of Northampton, he completed private practice and NHS settings placements and worked as a Foot Health Practitioner and Phlebotomist at the Coventry City Centre NHS Podiatry Clinic. He was drawn to podiatry because of the breadth of knowledge required (anatomy, medicine, biomechanics, and more) and the chance to work with patients to find treatments and plans that work for them.

Charlie lives in Coventry with his wife, teenage son and daughter, and their dog Milo. An avid cyclist and runner, he can often be seen stylishly clad in lycra (!) on the weekend, cycling with fellow “Team Pie” members to a local pub or cafe. He also enjoys theatre, reading, and peanut butter (his dietary Achilles heel!).

WENDY RICHARDS

PODIATRIST

BSc (Hons) MRCPOD

Wendy was raised in Wolverhampton, but now spends most of her week in Warwick.

She has worked in several healthcare positions over the past 25 years, ranging from preschool, adolescents, adults with learning disabilities/mental health, elderly and disabled. Then, after many years of diversity, she finally found podiatry or podiatry found her!

She loves her job, working with clients face to face, and seeing people happy after a treatment, gives her complete job satisfaction!

In her spare time, she enjoys time with her family/partner, friends, walking, motorbike riding, badminton, trying new challenges, and holidaying!

She also volunteers for a charity named Forgotten Feet, supporting homeless people in accessing foot care, shoes, and socks, and signposting them to access other services.

CASSIE ARMSTRONG

PODIATRIST

BSc (Hons) MRCPOD

Cassie graduated from Southampton University in 2006 and joined Scholl at the Coventry branch in 2007. When Shuropody purchased them in 2008 she continued working with them initially at Coventry, but then moved around various stores and clinical roles over the years. She eventually ended up in Leamington Spa in 2012 as Senior Podiatrist, stepping up to Regional Clinic Manager in 2017.

Cassie lives in Birmingham with her husband Simon, daughter Evelyn who is 2, and Steve the cat. As a family they like to spend their days either at home playing games or baking, or out visiting new places, but Evelyn's favourite is the Sea Life Centre.

CLAIRE ARMSTRONG

FOOT HEALTH PRACTITIONER

COLLEGE OF FOOT HEALTH

Claire was born and bred in Birmingham where she still lives today, and previously worked in the NHS for 27 years as a healthcare and rehab assistant. Inspired by her daughter, Cassie, she decided to change direction and train in Foot Health. She really enjoys connecting with my clients and putting the spring back in their step! When not at work, she enjoys gardening and spending time with her 6 grandchildren.

The best way to describe a Foot Health Practitioner is to compare it to being a Hygienist. In the same that a Hygienist works alongside a Dentist, providing routine care and cleaning, an FHP can carry out routine foot care maintenance. They are also trained to spot potential problems which can then be flagged to the Podiatrist.

Your Podiatrist may suggest that your routine care can be carried out by Claire. Rest assured, you will be in very safe hands, with your regular Podiatrist still being involved in your care as necessary. This allows us to run the clinic more efficiently and makes the best use of the team's expertise.

CARRIEANN MINIHANE

FOOT HEALTH PRACTITIONER

The Alliance Register of Foot Health Practitioners

Carrieann worked as a health care assistant for ten years before training as a Foot Health Practitioner. She has worked in the Coventry City Centre NHS podiatry department for the last three years. She loved her work there but was frustrated that she couldn't upskill further, so she is now embarking on a three-year Podiatry Apprenticeship Degree through Plymouth University, but based at Kenilworth Footcare. She spends two days per week working as a Foot Health Practitioner, one day learning from the podiatrists, and another day studying via online lectures.

In her spare time, she enjoys doing yoga, watching football (particularly Manchester United), and long dog walks with Paddy, her Patterdale Terrier.

MERRYN CATLEY

PHYSIOTHERAPIST

BSc (Hons)

After a career in biological research, Merryn made the switch to study Physiotherapy over 20 years ago and has since gained expertise in musculoskeletal issues and pain management.

She believes in a holistic approach and so will not just be examining your feet and ankles but more how your body works as an integrated whole. Treatment will most likely include exercises, she is a Physio after all! but she also provides lots of very practical advice to aid your recovery as well as utilising our laser to promote healing. Read more in her blog here.

Merryn lives in Kenilworth, has 2 adult children, and a much-loved cat. She is also a qualified yoga instructor.

KATE HARRISON

CLINIC DIRECTOR

DChM LCh

Kate is the Director of Kenilworth Footcare. She qualified as a chiropodist in 1997 and initially worked for Scholl at their Stratford store. However, since 1999 Kate has worked for herself, renting rooms at clinics first in Hinckley and then Kenilworth, the town she was raised in. As demand for her services grew, and as the scope of podiatry expanded, the time came to build a team in a purpose designed podiatry clinic to meet the foot care needs of the town. Kenilworth Footcare opened its doors in November 2018.

Kate has now stepped back from clinical practice to focus on the challenge of running a busy clinic. In 2021, Kenilworth Footcare became a part of the national Foot Medic Group to ensure the clinic stays at the forefront of podiatric care.

Kate lives in Stratford with her husband Neil, children Holly and Callum, who are both students, Milo the dog and Luigi the cat. She enjoys nothing more than walking with Milo around the Welcombe Hills to unwind.
