In 20 years of tending feet, this has to be the biggest blister I’ve come across!
Surprisingly, the lady concerned hadn’t been aware of how much her shoe had rubbed until she took it off at the end of the day. Being in that location, she was unable to get a shoe back on and so came to the clinic in a slipper, with the blister well protected.
This was definitely an occasion where the blister needed to be burst. Using plenty of antiseptic and a sterile blade, a tiny incision released the fluid build-up. I then put a felt pad around what was left of the blister with a dressing over the top to keep the pressure off it so that it could heal over.
